Priest apologizes for mocking Clinton while at Obama church
Church

A video making the rounds on YouTube shows the Rev. Michael Pfleger mocking Clinton for becoming teary-eyed before the New Hampshire primary in January.

In the video, Pfleger wipes his eyes with a handkerchief and suggests Clinton wept because she thought that as a white person and the wife of a former president, she was entitled to the presidency.

...looks like Mocking Hillary in a sermon is becoming a regular pass-time among some pastors who are run in liberation-theology circles. This is not a good thing - you can't do this from the pulpit.

You CAN have a legitimate conversation about Obama screwing up Hillary's "coronation" - but a sermon is NOT the time to either endorse or attack candidates.

I was reading the snippet and the start of the article muttering to myself "Please don't let him be a Catholic priest! Please don't let him be a Catholic priest! ... Damn! He's a Catholic priest!"

What is he doing in the pulpit of a Protestant church? He doesn't belong there! (I suspect he was there because Cardinal George would have his hide if he made those comments at St. Sabina.)

According to the Catholic forums, he is a publicity hound whose parish bears little resemblance to anything Catholic. It sounds like the Cardinal doesn't want to inflict him on any other parish, yet Rev. Pfleger has not done enough to get defrocked.

After hearing him speak I was certainly surprised to find out he was a Roman Catholic Priest.

Here is the take from Catholic Online with some more information.

Well, Obama has now split from Trinity for basically these issues (link)

First, this seems as politically expedient as George W. Bush apologizing for appearing at Bob Jones University and even more than McCain rejecting Hagee's endorsement. Has Trinity just recently changed? I doubt it. So Obama remained a member of a church for 20 years that he just now feels crosses the line? Or has it crossed the line for 20 years, but now it hampers his election? Or did he not realize it was crossing the line for 20 years? He needs to own his albatross instead of claiming that he thought it was a beautiful parrot all along.

Second, it will be interesting to see if Obama joins another church. Is the problem the publicity he brings to the church? Is the problem the theology taught at Trinity? I don't think someone with true faith and is able to go to church can not be part of a church for long. However, for many people, church is more of a social club. It can be easy to trade a Christian social club for a secular social club.

Third, I find it interesting that McCain, the Republican nominee, really doesn't talk about his church. Seems like a change from past years.

Father Michael Pfleger asked to Step Down by Cardinal

(The title is a little misleading. It is only a temporary step down - at this point.)
